Boy it’s hard to shop…

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

I decided to spend some time learning about an ordinary everyday product this morning: Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy. I decided to see how really environmentally friendly/people friendly it really is. There really is so much that consumers have to know or should think about when purchasing products sometimes…it can be a little overwhelming for the average consumer.

To Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy:

I didn’t have a lot of luck from the P&G site, sadly. But my search instead pointed me to BreastCancerFund.org, of all places…http://www.breastcancerfund.org/site/pp.asp?c=kwKXLdPaE&b=2483603.

Oh, what lovely PR for the Herbal Essences brand…

My hunting and pecking around that site then led me to this site: the Environmental Working Group’s “SKIN DEEP” Cosmetics Database, and http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php; and then, to this site: that of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, at http://www.safecosmetics.org/companies/signers.cfm.

Here’s a link to a useful article published on Co-Op America’s website: http://www.coopamerica.org/pubs/realmoney/articles/cosmetics.cfm
