Consolidation Starts In The Grocery Section…

Whole Foods has proposed to merge with Wild Oats. No big surprise, since these are two very well-aligned businesses, and given that other bigger companies are jumping into the whole ‘organic’ fray. The story is here. Expect to see more consolidation in this sector. Not sure what that will look like, at this point, but Whole Foods is making sure it’s got its market share, market alliances, and go to market strategy for the longer term shored up.
