Hydrogen Solar

Monday, December 12th, 2005

Ah, another interesting little company.  The web is such a wonderful resource. www.hydrogensolar.com. Did you know that these guys hold the worldwide exclusive rights to a technology they call the "Tandem Cell", which converts light and water directly into hydrogen fuel. Interesting. Here – a little excerpt from the firm’s website: " Hydrogen Solar has been active in Bio-Hydrogen production since  its inception, and continues to own and develop intellectual property in  the field.  In 2002, Hydrogen Solar joined with the University of  Glamorgan’s Wastewater Treatment Research Unit to solicit funding for a  program investigating the feasibility of producing hydrogen from wheat starch-based food industry co-products by fermentation.

The Glamorgan  study – which was awarded £76,000 through Carbon Trust’s Low Carbon  Innovation Programme – aims to optimise the fermentative production of  hydrogen to generate low pollution, gaseous biofuels.  It will attempt  to determine how the stable generation of hydrogen over long periods of  time can be achieved, as well as ways of increasing the amount of  hydrogen produced.  The ultimate commercial outcome of the study is to assess  the viability of generating hydrogen continuously via a sustainable  technology so it can be used as a fleet transport fuel. (Very cool)  Hydrogen produced  from the co-products of the wheat starch-based food industry could ultimately  provide that industry in the UK with a sustainable, secure,  versatile, locally-produced fuel.  The Glamorgan study is led by Professor  Freda Hawkes and Professor Dennis Hawkes of the University’s School of  Applied Sciences and School of Technology."

So, just a little hint from me – if you need to know anything, and I mean ANYTHING on hydrogen and fuel cells, you might want to check this out: http://www.hydrogensolar.com/links.html…they have done their homework, you might say.

I need to call these guys and get briefed. Very interesting little company indeed.
