The Abrams Clean Tech Report

Nothing like a toxic waste dump or two to wake you up. I found these sites this morning, documenting all of our toxic waste dumps. Toxic waste dumps are all over the U.S.

And this last Sunday, September 30, 2007, is, according to the site, the 4th year anniversary of the bankruptcy of Superfund’s Trust Fund. In 2003, the General Accounting Office (GAO) announced that the Superfund’s Trust Fund would be completely used up by the end of that fiscal year (September 30), leaving US taxpayers responsible for cleanup costs instead of the polluting companies. Something seems off here. All this talk about clean tech — I think we need to articulate how clean tech can help us clean up our toxic waste messes. This stuff must get cleaned up. No finger pointing at any other country unless our own messes no longer exist.

If you’re interested in doing something, or talking to someone who’s very knowledgeable on Superfund issues, I’d probably recommend Katherine N. Probst, Senior Fellow at Resources For The Future. She’s cited for her research into the subject. More info here:
