Technology You Can Wear

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

Well, I am not sure some people would technically call this "technology" – others certainly would, but it’s fascinating to me, and this also happens to be one of the softest fabrics I’ve ever felt — bamboo fiber clothing.  There are several companies now manufacturing clothing woven from bamboo fiber – and it’s worth trying the clothing out…and here’s how they manage to make the fiber:

Made by processing the bamboo grass stalk and combing the fiber strands from the actual plant itself, bamboo yarn is cool, very soft, antimicrobial, and biodegradable.  This is a very interesting blog by Shanghai Tenbro, which has some interesting facts about bamboo – http://www.tenbro.com/blog/
